Crysler Boat Launch is Closed

🚫 NOTICE: BOAT LAUNCH CLOSURE IN CRYSLER - SOUTH NATION RIVER πŸš¨

The Crysler Boat Launch is closed until further notice due to an abundance of harmful Blue-Green Algae.

Blue-Green Algae is present along the South Nation River between Cass Bridge, Chesterville and Crysler: exercise extreme caution and avoid contact with the water.

Please consider accessing the South Nation River in Casselman, St. Albert or Plantagenet as an alternative.

🌊 Blooms are linked to low water conditions that have reduced river flows. Blue-green algae are naturally present in water and may produce toxins harmful to people, pets, and livestock.

If you spot a bloom or live nearby, take precautions:

βœ”οΈ πŸ”¬ Assume toxins are presentβ€”you can’t tell by looking

βœ”οΈ πŸš«πŸŠ Avoid swimming, bathing, or direct contact with the water

βœ”οΈ πŸš± Do not drink the water

βœ”οΈ πŸΆπŸš« Keep pets and livestock away

βœ”οΈ πŸšΏ Wash thoroughly with clean water and soap if contact occurs; rinse pets immediately

βœ”οΈ πŸ₯ Seek medical attention if symptoms appear (skin irritation, nausea, stomach pain, difficulty breathing)

βœ”οΈ β˜ŽοΈ Report sightings to the Ministry of the Environment: 1-866-663-8477

Additional notes:

🎣 Fish fillets are generally safe to eat (toxins may concentrate in fish organs), but should be avoided during algae blooms.

🌱 Residents can help reduce blooms long-term by limiting fertilizer use and maintaining septic systems to reduce nutrient runoff into waterwaysβ€”everyone has a role to play in keeping our rivers healthy.

πŸ‘€ Blooms may look like paint streaks, scum, or pea soup, often πŸŸ© green, πŸŸ¦ blue, turquoise, or olive in colour, and may give off unpleasant odours.

πŸ“Š Monitoring will continue, and conditions should improve after sustained rainfall restores river flows.
